In the Pink with Gatsby

Library of America’s gorgeous new annotated edition of The Great Gatsby glows pink, a pale breathy pink. Is it the soft shade of romance? Pink lighting in restaurants is said to flatter all diners. Is it a bold statement of individuality? All eyes on Gatsby in his unconventional pink suit, as he hopes to confront Tom and secure his new life with Daisy. Yet, his pink is ridiculed. It’s not Oxford. Gatsby, ultimately, doesn’t make the grade. Or does he?

When one of our readers signed up for our upcoming Gatsby reading, she made a point to say she’d be wearing pink. Perfect!  Be bold. Stand out. Claim your true identity whether or not you went to the right schools. Pink flatters all.

Don’t miss our day-long Gatsby community reading, Saturday May 30. We start at the John Jermain Library and continue at the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum. Actor Paul Hecht kicks off the event, and playwright Robert Schenkkan reads the unforgettable conclusion. A troupe of local actors will portray the explosive hotel scene. We’ll toast the great F. Scott Fitzgerald at an after party at the Museum. The entire event, plus book discussion, read-aloud workshops, and a special film screening at Sag Cinema, is a fundraiser for Canio’s Cultural Cafe. Find details and registration information HERE.  We hope to see you, in the pink!
